Michael J. Gresh

The Intelligencer Michael J. Gresh Michael J. Gresh of Revere, Pa., was pronounced dead Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007, at Doylestown Hospital.

He was 60. Born Jan. 3, 1947, in Phillipsburg, N.J., he was a son of the late Michael and Anna Hancharik Gresh. He was a 1964 graduate of Palisades High School. For many years, Michael worked as a truck driver for Phillip's Concrete in Upper Black Eddy. He also owned and operated Mike's Auto Repair Shop in Revere. He enjoyed going to antique car shows. His funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Robert W. Snyder Funeral Home, Riegelsville, where friends may call from noon until the time of the service. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Haycock Township. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lehigh Valley Diabetes Association, 2045 Westgate Dr., Bethlehem, PA 18016. Robert W. Edith Arrigo of Quakertown, formerly of Nockamixon Township, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, at St. Luke's Quakertown Hospital. She was 80.

 She was the beloved wife of Nicholas A. Arrigo. They had celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in March 2003.

 Born Jan. 11, 1923 in Locksbottom, Farmborough, Kent, England, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Leonore (Hillman) Dabner.

 Edith was co-owner and manager, along with her husband, of the former Haycock Fountain & Grill, a popular family restaurant on Route 412 in Nockamixon in the late 1960s and early 1970s

NOCKAMIXON TWP., Pa. -- William Nast of Saucon Valley Manor, Hellertown, Pa. and formerly of Nockamixon Township, died Friday, Sept. 4, 2009 in the home. He was 89.

From 1957 until his retirement in 1984 he worked as a machine operator for Penn Engineering & Manufacturing Corp., Danboro, Pa. Prior to that he had worked for Roy Fair, Ferndale, Pa.

Born Sept. 23, 1919 in Philadelphia, he was a son of Herman and Ottilie Minke Nast.
He was a member and former councilman of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Ferndale. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a life member of the Easton Moose Lodge. He enjoyed hunting and was a member of the Revere/Ferndale Hunting Club. He loved gardening and was an avid Phillies fan.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, in March.

Funeral service: Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 4 p.m. in St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Ferndale. Visitation: at the church on Tuesday after 2:30 p.m.

Helen Nast Helen's Christmas Tree at Kringle

Helen Nast of Upper Black Eddy died Wednesday, March 4, 2009, Nast_Helen_working2003.JPG (334460 bytes)in Saucon Valley Manor, Hellertown. She was 77.

Born June 29, 1931 in Nockamixon Township, she was a daughter of the late Webster S. and Dorothy Trauger Lines.

In 1949, she graduated as class valedictorian from Nockamixon High School in Revere, and became the first secretary at the school, working for the late principle, Joseph Fink. Later, she worked as secretary for the late Melvin Mack, Superintendent of the Palisades School District. She also worked as a part time secretary for the Upper Bucks Vocational Technical School, as it was being formed.

Later in her life, she worked as a free lance newspaper correspondent and photographer for the Delaware Valley News, Doylestown Intelligencer, Quakertown Free Press and Easton Express newspapers.

She also served as United States Census enumerator for 40 years and Judge of Elections in Nockamixon Township district for more than 15 years.

She was a charter member of the Palisades Alumni Association, serving as former president and in many other capacities over the years. She was active in organizations of Nockamixon and Palisades High Schools, especially the Band Boosters.

She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Ferndale, where she was a former councilwoman, Sunday school teacher and former vice president of WELCA. She headed the Christmas wreath making project as well as other events. She grew and arranged the altar flowers for several years.

She recently retired as treasurer of Nockamixon Union Cemetery after serving 19 years. She served on the board of directors of Upper Bucks Chamber of Commerce while in business for herself.

She was an avid gardener and grew many prize winning flowers and vegetables. She also enjoyed crocheting many things, especially snowflakes and angels for Christmas. She was known as the "Angel Lady" at Doylestown Hospital.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Webster L. Lines.

Her funeral service will be at noon, Tuesday, in St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Ferndale, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Maro Anna Todd  Ma-De Chat Shop in Milford

HOLLAND TWP. -- Maro Anna Todd passed away on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008 at the Valley View Health Care Center in Alexandria Township. She was 87.

Born Feb. 26, 1921 in Matawan, she was a daughter of John Monroe and Flora Louise Watson. Maro lived in Holland Township since 1939.

She was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Milford for more than 60 years. She was the owner of the Ma-De Chat Shop in Milford which she ran successfully and continuously since 1977.

Maro was a past member of the Frenchtown American Legion Post Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed bowling and playing bingo. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.  Her beloved husband, Philip John Todd, passed away in 2002. Her brother, Dee Watson, also died earlier.

Services will be private under the care of the Johnson-Walton Funeral Home, Holland Township. Interment will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

HOLLAND TWP. -- Dolores M. Kuphal passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at Easton Hospital. She was 76.

Born May 31, 1932 in Ottsville, Pa., she was a daughter of Kenneth and Elizabeth (Bayer) Gross.

She graduated from Nockamixon (Pa.) High School in 1950 and moved to Holland Township in 1959.

She was a homemaker. Delores was a member of the Holland Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed sewing and making dolls. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Two sisters, Gladys Conrad and Evelyn Fluck, died earlier.

Frederick E. Christman

Frederick E. Christman of Kintnersville died Wednesday, March 12, 2008, in his home. He was 85.

He was the husband Anna Shuman Christman, who died in 2002.

Born Nov. 24, 1922, in Ludwigshafen, Germany, he was a son of the late Valentine and Elisabeth Anton Christman.

Mr. Christman was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Mark Stout

(Jan. 30) Mark Stout, owner of Eckerts Produce Inc., Philadelphia, and Valley Brook Farms, Nockamixon, Pa., died Jan. 15 while skiing in Steamboat Springs, Colo. He was 45.

Harold O. Foellner

Harold O. Foellner, a lifelong resident of Bucks County, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, at Doylestown Hospital. He was 86.

He was the husband of Anna Foellner, who passed away in 2003.

Born in Bucks County, he was the son of the late Ernest and Mable Transue Foellner.

Harold graduated from Nockamixon High School in 1939 and had worked for Hanover Foods.

He served on the Nockamixon Township Board of Supervisors for six years, was a Mason, Free and Accepted Masons, and a member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon of the Lehigh Valley.
 

Chef Tell Erhardt (Friedman Paul Erhardt)

Before chefs were as celebrated as rock stars, there was Chef Tell.

The well-known local chef, who gained national fame in the late 1970s on the syndicated television program Evening Magazine, has died at the age of 63.

Chef Tell Erhardts wife, Bunny, said Monday that he died Friday of an apparent heart attack.

Services will be Monday, Nov. 5, which would have been Chef Tells 64th birthday, at 11 a.m. at St. Lukes Church in Ferndale, according to his wife.

Elizabeth B. Mills

Elizabeth B. Mills, a resident of Upper Black Eddy for more than 40 years, passed away Monday, Jan. 1, 2007, at Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Township.
She was the wife for more than 43 years to Lester Neil Mills.
 She was raised in Revere and graduated from Palisades Regional High School in 1962.

Elmer "Ike" Auer Jr.

Elmer "Ike" Auer Jr. of Lehigh Township, Northampton County, and formerly of Perkasie and Kintnersville, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006, at his home. He was 78.  Born in Quakertown, he was the son of the late Elmer Sr. and Kathryn (Erb) Auer.

Raymond "Shorty" Litschauer of Pipersville died Monday, May 1, 2006, in his home. He was 76.

He is survived by his wife, the former Alberta Herstine. The couple had celebrated their 54-year wedding anniversary in September 2005.

Born Sept. 26, 1929, he was the son of the late Stephen and Rose Toerck Litschauer. Born and raised on a farm in Durham Township, he continued to be interested in farming throughout his life.

Edward Litschauer Sr. of Kintnersville, Pa., died on Feb. 14.

Ed was a longtime Durham Township Committeeman, he served his country in WWII and was a member of the American Legion in Palisades.

Marie Mattes of New Ringgold, Pa., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006, at her residence. She was 81.

She was the wife of Conrad Mattes.

Born in Kintnersville, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Rose (Turick) Litschauer.

She was a member of Christ United Church of Christ in McKeansburg.

Her memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at St. Luke United Church of Christ Church in Ottsville, where friends may call from 10 a.m.

Joseph H. Schmidt of Franklin, N.C., entered into rest on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004. He was 80.

He was the husband of Jean E. Brown Schmidt.

Norman F. Fair of Ferndale died Sunday, April 4, 2004, in Doylestown Hospital. He was 83.

He was the husband of Viola L. (Litschauer) Fair. The couple celebrated their 58-year wedding anniversary in November 2003.

Born Feb. 16, 1921 in Ferndale, he was a son of the late Harvey and Edna Krial Fair.

Harmon K. Wright Sr. of Nockamixon Township died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at his home. He was 78.

He was the husband of Dorothy (Degen) Wright, who died in 2002.

Born June 15, 1926 in Pittstown, N.J., he was the son of the late Roger Sherman and Emma (Hummer) Wright.

Mr. Wright lived in Milford, N.J. for most of his life before moving to Pennsylvania 53 years ago.

William Conrad of Revere died Sunday, March 14, 2004, in his home. He was 80.

His wife, the former Gladys Gross, died in 1989.

Born March 31, 1923, in Upper Black Eddy, he was the son of the late Otto and Margaret Goetz Conrad.

William was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his daughters, Diane L. Godshall, and her husband, Alan, of Bethlehem and Vicky L. Conrad of Harleysville and two grandchildren.

Sarah E. Holden, a resident of Plumsteadville since 1934, went home to her Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2004.

She celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends on Dec. 1, 2003.

She was the wife of the late Clarence L. Holden.

Born in Tinicum Township, she was the daughter of the late Ida and Lewis Eichlin.

Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral service at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 11, at Shelly Funeral Home, Easton Road at Keller's Church Road, Plumsteadville, where the family will receive friends from 1 until the time of the service. Interment will follow the service in Nockamixon Ferndale Cemetery.

Charles P. McCarty of Kintnersville died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, in Doylestown Hospital. He was 91.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Muth Scheetz McCarty.

Born Dec. 1, 1912 in Nockamixon Township, he was the son of the late Rosco and Mary Fleck McCarty.

He was last employed as an automobile service manager for Brown & Daub in Easton, where he worked for 10 years, retiring in 1974. Earlier, he had worked for P.R. Henderson in Easton for more than 20 years. He also had worked as a welder for Taylor Wharton in Easton.

Mary F. Knoble of Kintnersville died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, in her home. She was 81.

She was the wife of Adam J. Knoble. The couple celebrated their 60-year wedding anniversary in January 2003.

Born Jan. 23, 1922 in Nockamixon Township, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Vera Streepy Litzenberger.

Raymond I. Stover, formerly of Kintnersville and Doylestown, died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, in Beverly Health Care at Doylestown. He was 96.

Born May 1, 1907 in Kintnersville, he was a son of the late Cyrus and Irvena Mills Stover.

Sarah Froehlich of Furlong died Thursday, May 15, 2003, at Neshaminy Manor Nursing Home. She was 87.

She was the wife of Dietrich Froehlich, who died in 1967.

Born in Nockamixon, she was the daughter of the late Bernard M. and Margaret (Pursell) Mondeau.

John Russell MacFarland III of Revere, Pa. gently passed over to the spirit world surrounded by his family on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He was 59.

Born Nov. 8, 1951 in Philadelphia, he grew up in Feasterville and resided in Trevose before moving to Upper Bucks County in 1980. He graduated from Neshaminy H.S. in 1969 and attended BCCC, School of the Potomac and George Washington University.

John was very involved in his community, serving on the Zoning Hearing Board, the Nockamixon, Historical Committee, the Open-Space Committee, as chair on the Planning Board, as Nockamixon
Township Supervisor for 12 years, and chair and spokesperson for the Tinicum Watershed Association.
