Helen Nast of Upper Black Eddy died Wednesday, March 4, 2009, in Saucon Valley Manor, Hellertown. She was 77.

Born June 29, 1931 in Nockamixon Township, she was a daughter of the late Webster S. and Dorothy Trauger Lines.

In 1949, she graduated as class valedictorian from Nockamixon High School in Revere, and became the first secretary at the school, working for the late principle, Joseph Fink. Later, she worked as secretary for the late Melvin Mack, Superintendent of the Palisades School District. She also worked as a part time secretary for the Upper Bucks Vocational Technical School, as it was being formed.

Later in her life, she worked as a free lance newspaper correspondent and photographer for the Delaware Valley News, Doylestown Intelligencer, Quakertown Free Press and Easton Express newspapers.

She also served as United States Census enumerator for 40 years and Judge of Elections in Nockamixon Township district for more than 15 years.

She was a charter member of the Palisades Alumni Association, serving as former president and in many other capacities over the years. She was active in organizations of Nockamixon and Palisades High Schools, especially the Band Boosters.

She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Ferndale, where she was a former councilwoman, Sunday school teacher and former vice president of WELCA. She headed the Christmas wreath making project as well as other events. She grew and arranged the altar flowers for several years.

She recently retired as treasurer of Nockamixon Union Cemetery after serving 19 years. She served on the board of directors of Upper Bucks Chamber of Commerce while in business for herself.

She was an avid gardener and grew many prize winning flowers and vegetables. She also enjoyed crocheting many things, especially snowflakes and angels for Christmas. She was known as the "Angel Lady" at Doylestown Hospital.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, William Nast; a son and daughter-in-law, .

She was preceded in death by a brother, Webster L. Lines.

Her funeral service will be at noon, Tuesday, in St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Ferndale, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
